Chemistry, the central science, plays an important role in today’s scientific and technological developments. As science is becoming ever more interdisciplinary the significance of chemistry increases.
The Chemistry Department provides an excellent environment for all levels of students to explore, learn and enjoy Chemistry.
The department was established as degree department in 1979 with Dr.P.K Saraswathy Amma as the HOD. Subsequently it was upgraded as a Post Graduate department in 1999 with Prof.Hariharan Pillai as HOD with an intake of 12 students per batch at MSc level. The department received the post graduate assistance from UGC.
We have well equipped laboratories for Physical, Inorganic and Organic branches. The department has been maintaining a consistently good record in giving instructions at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Faculty members, in addition to their regular work are actively engaged in various extension activities conducted by the institution. Some of the faculty members are actively engaged in research activities. Some of the faculty members are resource persons for advanced topics and extension activities.
