History of the Department
The department of Zoology was started for the pre-degree course in the year 1966 under the able guidance of Prof.Chandran. The department was further expanded in 1977 as a support department for the subsidiary subject Zoology, in association with the department of Botany. A well qualified and accomplished faculty has existed in the department ever since its inception which has been responsible for credible results year after year.

Facilties Available in the department accessible to the students:

  • A well equipped laboratory a collection of more than 200 specimens for reference, a vermicomposting unit and a library are available.

Facilties that can be offered to the public:

Training program for employment generation and consultancy services

Results:

        Every year 98% of the students pass out successfully with 20% distinctions and 50% first class. In the year 2003 one student has scored 99% in Zoology and it is a record achievement for the department.

Extension Activities done

As a part of the extension activities ,the department has involved in conducting three workshops in the college. They are:

  1. A workshop on  "Mushroom Cultivation" on 29th and 30th march 2006
  2. A workshop on "Rabbit farming" on 26th & 27th of August 2006.
  3. A workshop on "Vermicompost Production" on 13th and 14th January 2007.
